Sometimes, always when I stop and watch Caleb, I am amazed by him.
This kid, I tell you– he has a personality for days. He can be so silly sometimes that I am laughing until I am crying. He is sweet, stubborn, joyful and a little spitfire. These days we sleep through the nights (for the most part) and wake up with the sun. Milk, and waffles or bananas and toast are usually on the breakfast menu and on special days, we even get a Mickey Mouse cartoon to go along with it.
Caleb adds more and more words to his vocabulary everyday, including saying “Bella, go inside!” Just today he added “goal!” to the list, and last week he learned to say sock, shoe, papa, landon (his cousin’s name) beep, choo-choo, moo, shhhh, oh boy! and nice. He loves to copy whatever we say, and it has been fun to hear him try out new sounds. My favorite word he says is still “wow!” whenever he sees something amazing (like the shelf of toys at Cracker Barrel). At first we figured he was just mimicking us, but he says it on his own, often and at appropriate times, so I think he really understands what he is saying. And, how cool is that? This little person who was a tiny little thing this time last year is starting to piece together two word sentences and communicate how he is feeling and what he is thinking.
I guess I am still in that phase (is it a phase? Does it ever go away?) where I am just floored by this big little man that Jonathan and I made. He is my best friend and I if I loved him anymore than I already do I think I would burst at the seams. Life is full, (and busy and exhausting and hard) but oh so good. And through the business of it all, I think (I hope, and pray) that I am slowing down when I need to, to soak it all in and enjoy every last bit of this baby boy during this time of life. Because this season really is sweet. And honestly, nothing else even comes close to mattering as much as being his mommy these days.
Sweet Season, indeed.
