It is no secret that this year has been busy– like super duper, don’t blink, can’t sleep, always 10 sessions behind, did-I-brush-my-teeth-this-morning? BUSY! In the spring I started toying around with the idea of hiring on an intern, but just wasn’t sure if I would even have time for that. You see, I don’t just want to have someone who runs around holding reflectors and bringing me coffee at my every whim (although, the latter is not a terrible idea). No, I really want to teach someone something, I want to be able to directly put the tools into the hands of someone with passion and drive and a heart for photography like I do. And mostly, I want that person to avoid all the mistakes I made in the beginning (because whoa, where would I be if I had had a person like that?!)
So I started thinking and praying about it, and it was just never the right time, until recently whenI received an e-mail from the sweetest girl. We chatted back and forth a few times and something just told me that THIS was my girl, this was my intern. Our first meeting confirmed it, when I felt like I had known her for years! SO: ASP is super excited to welcome Katie to the team for the fall (and beyond, perhaps!)
Katie is a just graduated, driven, sassy gal with a passion for all things creative. She immediately started saving for her first camera at age 13 after she saw the photographer at her older sister’s wedding. It was then, as they say, history and she has been obsessed with learning whatever camera she has in her hands. When asked what she loves most about taking photos, she says that it is because she loves letting people feel comfortable in their own skin, capture their true emotions and see how beautiful they really are. THAT is truly what is all about!
I knew I made the right decision last weekend when, on the party bus at a wedding both Katie and I rapped superbass in its entirety. I mean… destiny I tell ya. A few more fun facts about Katie: she loves coffee and tea, food network, crocheting, playing guitar, big Sunday family dinners, and fall and winter seasons. She is also obsessed with notebooks and at one point had three out on the table for one of our meetings, which kind of just made me love her even more!
So, that’s Katie and like I said earlier, I am just so excited to have her be a part of our team. (If you are scratching your head wondering who else is on the team, it is my husband! I think most of you already know him pretty well, but maybe I should do a little post on him too… I have some pretty HI-liarious behind the scenes pictures of him which are too good not to share!)
